Welcome to BBSN

The Baw Baw Sustainability Network (BBSN) is working locally to promote and achieve sustainable living. The BBSN is a group of every day people getting together to do extraordinary things today and for the future.

We are an independent not-for-profit group bridging the gap between talk and action on Sustainable Living.

Some of the activities we do:

  •     Bulk food buying group
  •     Re-skilling  Workshops
  •     Produce Swaps
  •     Domestic energy workshops
  •     Sustainable House Day
  •     Food Gardens Day
  •     Community Garden in Yarragon
  •     Gardening days
  •     Cooking pizzas in a wood-fired oven
  •     Film nights
  •     Informative speakers at public meetings

We're constantly coming up with new ideas & welcome any suggestions!

BBSN started up in 2007 when a group of ordinary people from around the West Gippsland and Baw Baw Shire area were concerned with the environmental situation of the planet and decided to form a sustainability group. The Network has since flourished with over 100 members and hundreds of interested people across our region.

Presentation - Prosperous Descent: Crisis as Opportunity in an Age of Limits

Abstract: "Since the industrial revolution economic growth has been held up as the most direct path to progress. In this talk Dr Samuel Alexander will review various counter-arguments to that view, which suggest that the growth model, in fact, is unsustainable and even socially counter-productive. In an age of ecological overshoot, perhaps we actually need to be thinking about planned "degrowth". Samuel Alexander explores the possibility of turning the overlapping crises of our times into opportunities for cultural and economic renewal."
